History of Kingsley Primary

Kingsley Primary school was opened on 9th of June 1971 by Mrs A. I'Anson, Mayor of Hartlepool. Its nursery school was originally housed on a separate site approximately 5 minutes walk away in Browning Avenue.

Over the years as the number of children attending Kingsley increased, the school has changed and expanded greatly. At first, outside ‘annex’ classrooms were added to cope with the increased numbers until on 7th March 2001, the portable classrooms were taken away and a large extension was added. The new extension houses all Key Stage 1 classrooms and an on-site nursery with a large outside space for the children to play and learn including a sensory garden. More recently, an outside climbing frame has been added for use by Key Stage 2 children. The original school building also underwent numerous changes including the addition of an ICT suite, well-equipped library and conservatory extensions to provide extra learning space. All Key Stage 2 classrooms were also given a new look giving the whole school a modern feel. To add to this, all classrooms have interactive whiteboards to enhance the teaching and learning which takes place.

The school is now additionally resourced for children with autistic spectrum disorders and we aim to provide these children with an excellent education in a mainstream environment.
