  • Year 6 Pupils and Staff - Positive Covid-19 Cases

    Sun 21 Nov 2021

Dear Year 6 parents, we have now been informed of a number of positive cases of covid 19 in year 6. I have spoken  to the local authority this morning and the advice is that everyone in year 6, staff and pupils, should not attend school tomorrow and they should have a negative PCR before they return to school. I will be discussing the situation further with the Director of Public Health tomorrow and I will be in touch with further advice. Please book a PCR as soon as you can.
    Thank you

  • Our new School Communication App

    Tue 16 Nov 2021

    Dear Parent/Carer,

We are pleased to announce that we are all set up and ready to roll out our new school communication app that we informed you about earlier on in the school year. If you have already completed the form and returned to school with your contact details then you should receive a text message over the next couple of days from ‘TheSchoolApp’ as below:

‘Your school have given you access to receive private app messages. To verify your phone number, please follow this link https://theschoolapp.page.link/install’

Keep this message as you can use the link to set up your access to the app.

Please see below some instructions  we hope will help with the set-up:

    1. Ensure you have downloaded ‘TheSchoolApp’ for your mobile device.
    2. Follow the link that you have received on your mobile device.
    3. Confirm your mobile phone number when prompted.
    4. You should then receive a text message with a verification code to enter onto the app.
    5. You should then be prompted to enter a PIN code to provide extra security when using the app.
    6. Should your phone have the ability to recognise Face ID or Touch ID, you will be prompted and asked if you would like to use this instead of entering your PIN for the future. If you have been sent a code but you don’t complete the authentication process, you will be asked to complete the PIN set up the first time you try and access a private message.
    7. You will now see the school and pupil/s you are subscribed to by name. Next tap the ‘Done’ button.
    8. You will then be taken to the home screen of the app that will always display the School’s Calendar, Latest News items and Newsletters.
    9. You will also notice that there are 5 tabs along the bottom of the screen. ‘Home’, ‘Calendar’, ‘School’, ‘Messages’ and ‘More’.
    10. The ‘messages’ section is where you will see private messages that guest users will not have access to. For example, the messages may be information about your child’s class trip, information about a club they attend or could be a personal message sent only to yourself regarding them individually.

    Guest Users

If you have not been given app access by school and have not been through the authentication process, you can still view TheSchoolApp as a guest user. Once you have tapped into the app through your device you will be asked if you have received an SMS invitation from the school. Tap ‘No’. This option is great for the likes of Grandparents or extended family members who want to keep up with the latest news at Kingsley, Newsletters, holiday dates etc. but haven’t been granted access for private messages.

You can find a link to a more detailed guide if required here.

If you have any problems with the set up please don’t hesitate to contact the school office on 01429 273102.

    Thank you

  • Important Safeguarding Information

    Fri 15 Oct 2021

    Important safeguarding information

We have been notified that a new Netflix series ’Squid Games’ is causing quite a buzz at moment and that some children have already been discussing it in school.

The series is Certified 15 and depicts sex scenes, nudity, extreme violence, self-harm, suicide, bad language. The series makes links to children’s playground games in an inappropriate way. The series has been referenced on Tiktok a lot too.

The advice given would not be any different to advice we would give about any other TV or film not suitable for children.

“If they are not of the age to meet the certification, then they shouldn’t really be watching that series/film”

We have attached the Netflix NOS parental guide along with some advice to check their parental settings on their children’s Netflix devices.

    Top tips for parents/carers

    • control what content your children can watch. Setting up a Netflix Kids experience profile means that children only have access to TV shows and movies which have been carefully selected for kids. The look and feel of the app is simpler and children can’t access any account settings
    • If your child is a little older, parents can create a separate profile to their own and set a maturity rating that means children will see only TV shows and movies that t that rating. The three categories of rating for the UK are kids (all, U, PG), teens (12, Guidance, Teen) and adult (15, 18, mature, adult). You can also block specific TV shows and movies from individual proles which means they don’t show up in the browse or search results.
    • parents can review the TV shows and films that have been watched on each profile under their account.

If your child seems upset or shocked by something (like squid games) they have seen or if you are concerned about anything they’ve viewed, try to talk to them about it and have an open and honest conversation to help understand any concerns.

    • It’s important to keep your own account secure so that children can’t freely switch between profiles and potentially access more adult-themed content or change access levels.

Parents can set-up a Profile Lock PIN which means only they can access their own and everyone else's Netflix account.

    • Given that Netflix doesn’t use 2-factor authentication, the need for a unique username and strong password is even more important. Try to use a different password to ones you’ve used before and use a mixture of numbers, letters (uppercase and lowercase) and symbols, with a minimum of 8 characters.
    • Always log out when not using your account so that if your device is lost or stolen, your account remains inaccessible

Covid-19 Risk Assessment for Autumn Term 2021

  • Important message for current Y5 parents (September Y6's)

    Fri 16 Jul 2021

    Dear Y5 Parents/Carers,

Our scheduled residential trip for Y6 pupils to Carlton Outdoor Education Centre usually takes place in February. However, due to the uncertainty of any restrictions in the winter months we have taken the opportunity to book and go in the Autumn Term as there was no availability in the Summer Term of next year.  Therefore, our residential visit to Carlton for Year 6 pupils will take place on:

    Monday 18th October – Friday 22nd October 2021

As you may be aware, the local authority is no longer able to subsidise the costs for families on free school meals and/or low incomes.

The cost of visiting Carlton has increased considerably over the last few years. The total cost is approx. £260.00 per pupil, this includes: accommodation, all food & activities, transport, insurance and £8.00 pocket money per child.

As we feel Carlton is an essential, valuable learning experience and part of the Year 6 curriculum for our children, the school Governors have agreed to subsidise the cost again this year to ensure that everyone in Year 6 is able to attend.

We are asking that all pupils pay a minimum contribution of £140.00 towards the total cost of the visit.

We are aware that this does not give a lot of notice for the payment; therefore if you would like to pay in small amounts from now until the visit on the 18th October then payments can be made to the school office.

Any financial concerns regarding the visit can be discussed with myself on an individual basis.

If your child does not want to go to Carlton at the moment it may be worth paying the money as last year several children changed their mind at the last minute and parents had to pay the full amount in one payment.  If your child does not want to attend Carlton in October all money will be reimbursed.

Further meetings will be held in school when your child is in year 6 to discuss the trip further. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Barrass or myself.

    Thank you

    Mrs Darby

  • Important News for summer holidays

    Thu 15 Jul 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers

As I am sure you have seen in the news many Covid restrictions are due to lift on 19th July.

The requirement to isolate as a close contact remains until 16th August.

After we break up on Friday our Covid phone (07714 518313) will still be available for you to report positive PCR results.

If any children develop symptoms within 48 hours of being in school and then test positive we would like to inform their classmates and the staff involved.

In order to reduce the impact on staff we will be letting parents know by posting a message on all of the usual platforms.

We will not make individual calls. If you would prefer a telephone call because you do not access the usual platforms please let the office know before Friday.

The Covid phone will be switched off on Wednesday morning 21st July and from that date we do not need to know about positive results.  All track and trace from that point will be undertaken by the national test and trace service.

Many thanks for your co-operation with this unpleasant task over the last 18 months. We have had many difficult calls to make, often at unsocial times and you have helped by being so kind and understanding.

    Kind regards

    Mrs Darby

  • Free School Meal Vouchers

    Tue 13 Jul 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers

You should have received a letter from the local authority with details of the holiday support on offer.

If you are in receipt of benefits related  free school meals there is a voucher for £50.00 per child in the school office for you to collect. Eligible 2 and 3 year olds have had their vouchers sent directly by the local authority to their home address.

We have received codes from the local authority and we have printed the vouchers for you.

We have vouchers for Tesco, Asda and Aldi

These will be distributed on a first come first served basis in terms of choice.

Vouchers can be collected from the school office from 1pm today, if you wish to choose your supermarket.

Any vouchers not collected by Friday will be posted out.

Please note we did not order the codes so we can not reorder if vouchers are lost or damaged.

    Many thanks

    Mrs Darby
